A word about sweeteners
Sugar is bad for you. Everyone knows that, but we eat it anyway. What most people don't know is that artificial sweeteners are worse for the body than sugar. They have a negative impact on the body.
Honey, on the other hand, is actually good for you. It has a positive impact on the body.
My sweetener of choice in most of my baking is agave. Agave has a neutral impact on the body. Is neither harms nor helps the body. So even though it's not good for you at least it follows the Hippocratic Oath "at least do no harm." It is made from nectar from the blue agave plant so it is natural and is not an artificial sweetener. It has a low glycemic index which means that it doesn't spike the blood sugar.
The reason I use agave, even though honey is better for me, is expense and ease of use. Honey is typically more expensive and is more difficult to measure because of its thick viscosity. The cheapest place to buy agave (that I have found) is Costco. I can go to the grocery store and spend a fortune on a tiny little bottle of agave or go to Costco and get 6X the amount for the same price. Even then it's still far more expensive than sugar, but that can be a good thing. Because I know it's expensive I naturally use less. Not much of a silver lining, but we'll take what we can get.
